Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting -Ethan Andrew

My name is Ethan Andrew. I suffered from cannabis-induced psychosis about 5 years ago. Despite a full recovery, I have never truly been the same since. Although I am succeeding in life on the surface, marijuana has affected me mentally to the point where I live in constant fear if I’m in the clear or not. That is, will I ever experience psychosis again? Will I develop a long-term psychotic illness? Those are thoughts I have to live with and accept. Don’t get me wrong, I am blessed to be here and I live a happy, fulfilling life. I overcame addiction to such a misunderstood drug. Whatever demons I deal with now would be infinitely worse if I didn’t cease my cannabis use. I just wish I knew then what I know now.

Join us on the first Friday of every month for messages of hope and healing from the impacts of marijuana. We welcome a different speaker every month who will share their experience and provide pathways to find serenity as we navigate through today’s pro-marijuana/drug culture. Whether you’re grieving the loss of a loved one or trying to recover yourself, this meeting is for you. You will be a Q & A at the end of each meeting. This meeting is appropriate for all family members ages 16 and up.

Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting -Rowan-P.

I’m Rowan painter, 18 years old, from Houston Texas. I became addicted to vaping marijuana at a young age which led me to feel depressed and I was totally shut down. Then, I progressed to use more drugs,  like injecting meth. I have been in and out of recovery for 3 years with some challenging situations, but I’m so grateful to say, I now have achieved 8 months of sobriety. My life has completely changed and the obsession to get high is no longer haunting me.  And on a lighter note, a fun fact about me is  I love the reality TV show Survivor and have studied the game since its conception.  My dream is to one day be picked to participate in the Survivor challenge. Please join me to hear more about my recovery story on Nov. 4, 2022.

Wednesday Mar-Anon meeting with focus on adult qualifiers (independent of EBM)

Mar-anon

This meeting every Wednesday will focus on adult qualifiers (spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, significant others, brothers/sisters, parents etc.) although all are welcome.

Mar-Anon is a fellowship of those affected by another person’s marijuana use.  Its foundation is the Twelve Steps, adapted from Marijuana Anonymous, which can be a powerful, life-changing tool.  We come together to work the steps and offer hope, comfort, and support for other members.  We are not a religious group, instead, we use the steps as a path of self-discovery and personal change. The only requirement for membership is that a person be affected by another’s marijuana addiction.

Mar-Anon is independent of the Every Brain Matters Organization. EBM encourages Mar-Anon meetings to promote healing.

This is an online zoom meeting.

Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting- Lauren B.

My name is Lauren. Marijuana has damaged my life in many ways. I have substance use disorder. I started using marijuana at the age of 14 and by 17 my drug of choice was heroin. I have bipolar and an anxiety disorder and when I used marijuana it would often send me into panic attacks and episodes of mania, and worse, marijuana caused me to experience psychosis. I have been in recovery for the past two years, but I have struggled the most with my dependency to marijuana. Marijuana was not a harm-reduction drug for me, it always led me back to heroin. Many nights I contemplated taking my life and even attempted to a couple of times.  Overcoming my addiction has been by far the hardest thing I’ve had to do. I have been in two psychiatric wards and seven rehabilitation centers. I’ve had hours of therapy and I work an AA program where I have been able to find peace and the ability to live sober. I am currently in school getting my LCDC (Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor), so I can help other addicts find the same serenity I have. Please join me on December 2nd to hear my experience, strengths, and hope.

Event Series Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting

Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting -Dominic M.

Hello, my name is Dominic M., and I am currently 18 years old. My sobriety date is 1-28–2022. I struggled a lot most of my life. I did things to get attention,  and I didn’t have any real connections, especially with my dad. There was a lot of violence in both of my homes, and it seemed like my parent’s divorce was the portal to me entering hell. For me, drugs were always an option, and when I first started getting high, I didn’t even have a good time.  I was made fun of and ridiculed because of my behavior. My using honestly really skyrocketed when I convinced my mom and psychiatrist that Delta-8 THC was CBD. This began the huge rift in my relationship with them, and I began using Delta-8 almost daily. I convinced my parents that Delta-8 was medicine, but I was really using it to get high.

After a few years of using, and even using while I was in a recovery program. I decided to actually honestly work on my recovery during my last relapse when I was inhaling dangerous chemicals from aerosol cans and seriously considered using meth.  I had decided that enough was enough. I wanted to get sober for real. Having the willingness to work on my recovery and then putting that willingness into action (work), I am proud to say I have been sober for almost a year. Please join me on Jan. 6 at 6 pm central time to hear about my experience, strength, and hope.

Event Series Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting

Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting – Ethan D.

My name is Ethan and I started struggling emotionally at a young age. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, where drugs and alcohol were used to cope with life’s challenges. My parents drank themselves away from me and other relationships.  I was the youngest in the family and I grew up helping my older sisters sneak out at night. My parents divorced when I was 14 years old and I felt completely alone because I was the last child left in the house.  As my family continued to struggle, I found that drugs helped me get through each day. At first, it started out fun but soon the only reason I woke up was to use alcohol and marijuana.  Marijuana became my obsession.  It’s all I thought about each day, and all day long. Using marijuana at such a young age had a major impact on my mental health, and I developed a deep anger toward the world. Today I am 20 years old and I am proud to say have achieved  3 and a half years of sobriety. I also help teens and young adults who have struggled like me find their pathway to sobriety. Join me on Feb 3rd to hear about my experience, strength, and hope.

Every Brain Matters Monthly Speakers Meeting -recovering from my son’s cannabis psychosis-Linda W.

My name is Linda Wolfe. My son had three episodes of cannabis-induced psychosis (CIP) within two years, beginning in his first semester of college.   K was doing fine, playing sports, and was in the sheriff’s cadets program. We all enjoyed traveling and spending time together, and then these THC-induced psychosis episodes hit our family like a thunderbolt. My husband and I had to involuntarily commit him to the hospital three times, including a CA hospital.  K had met a man while he was IN ACTIVE PSYCHOSIS who had been in prison, a thief.  He convinced K to drive to CA, where he ended up stealing his car with everything he owned in it and leaving him on the side of the road while actively experiencing cannabis-induced psychosis. We, as a family, went through absolute HELL. This was NOT the son we knew.  We learned high-THC weed is very addicting and caused this to happen. We worked through it together as a family, and now our son is recovering well. He has been clean from weed for the last year.   He is working and planning to return to school in the fall.  Recovering from THC takes a long time, but it is possible. He does not have schizophrenia or other mental health conditions.  His psychosis was induced by weed and weed alone. I will share my experience, strength, and hope with the Every Brain Matters community because I want to help other families.  Please join me on May 5, 2023.
